THE WINNERS OF
THE HOLIDAY DECORATION CONTEST IN THE HAMLET OF ROXBURY
When all was said and done, the judging of the GRBA Holiday Decorating Contest was not an easy task at hand. With nearly 50 properties decked out for the holidays, the GRBA Judges were faced with some difficult decisions. So many honorable mentions, starting with those outside the hamlet proper! The folks up on Vega Mountain, Karen and Dave Underwood out on County Highway 41, and Lucci and Randy Kelly out on Route 30! Looks like we may have to expand the boundaries for next year!
And NYSEG must be rolling in dough… Rita and Marty Finch and Reverend and Carol Ann Dystra deserve a mention for their illumination on Main Street. And the folks over at RAG… all homemade and quite a lovely viewshed at the base of Vega Mountain Rd. Let’s not forget our downtown, with Roxbury General housing the fabulous handmade wooden Christmas tree, and beautifully dressed storefront window. Many thanks to the Orphic Gallery and the Lenihan Family for allowing access to create a lively scene, to the Roxbury Wine and Spirits Store for the jazzy verticals, and Queens Mountain Café for all aglow. Look some more… Cassie’s Café and the old pharmacy building, the Public Lounge and, of course, The Roxbury Motel. Jake and Debbie Boyle on Bridge Street are certainly worth a mention, and let’s not forget those folks up on Ridge Road, Mike Hynes and Kellie Winnie, and Damian and Cathy Porter. And hats off to the Roxbury Fire Department— not only did they light up the building, but the recent appearance of Santa and his elves lit up the hearts of children—young and old. The north end of Main also added to the beauty with the McGuiness House and the neighboring properties sparkling in the night. And of course, there is Kirkside Retirement Home and Kirkside Park that can boast use of solar lights and a team of dedicated community volunteers and students from RCS who made sure both sites were decked out for the holidays.
All in all, the GRBA wishes to thank all those who took the time to help us light up the town… How about twice as many for next year? And the drum roll please.
